DOCUMENTARY ART PLATFORM

2016 – ongoing

What Remains
documentary performance-promenade | 27 February |
Tuesday | 19:30 | Bg | 90 min | Tickets: 15 BGN

Led by the actors of Vox Populi, the audience of the performance will walk to three significant streets in Sofia to witness situations from a parallel city life. In front of memorials, garbage containers, graffiti art and invisible hiding places, they will suddenly hear the city's enigmatic inhabitants speak the people who take care of what "remains", of what we leave behind.

Director: Neda Sokolovska
Cast:

The performance starts at The Red House and will be presented outdoors.

* Due to the specifics of the show, the maximum number of viewers is limited to 15 people. You need to reserve a place in advance by e-mailing [email protected].

The performance is a joint initiative of VOX POPULI Documentary Theatre Studio, the Ecological Association "For the Earth" and students of Cultural Studies at Sofia University.

The performance is part of the project "School for Sustainable Development and Activism" implemented by "For the Earth" and "Friends of the Earth-Europe." It aims to promote informal methods of environmental education with a focus on practical knowledge and building an informed civilian position on global topics that affect people and nature.

During the first stage of the project, in May-June 2017, a field study was organized in which the team met with dozens of recyclers in different parts of Sofia. Most of the garbage collection points in the city were visited and the team collected the stories of the people who visit them every day and feed themselves and their families with the money received. These "anonymous" garbage collectors, who often face our apathy and suspicion, are in fact among the most important engines for the constant renewal of Sofia and the preservation of its appearance.

"Friends of the Earth Bulgaria" is thankful for the financial support of the European Union. The content of this event and the materials presented in it do not reflect the positions of the European Union. The European Union is not responsible for the information provided during the event.

"Peace be upon you!" is a universal religious greeting found in both Christianity and in
Islam. The performance explores the complex theme of the refugee wave and the limits of
tolerance. The artists reproduce word for word (from Lat., verbatim) interviews with
refugees done during fieldwork in the most painful problem areas in the country.

DOCUMENTARY-SENSORY PERFORMANCE
19 Dec at 19:30 |20, 21 Dec. at 18:00 and 20:00 | All halls | BG, EN | Tickets: 12/10 BGN

LOW COST is inspired by the social dimensions of tourism in Bulgaria. Questions like how we present ourselves to the outside world, how we think of the separations "abroad" and "at home", what kind of mask we create and what personality hides beneath it, are the basis for exploring the symptoms of the national identity problem and its presentation in the XXI-st century. The performance is a journey into different dimensions of the tourist experience.

VERBATIM THEATRE
10 Oct. | 19:30 | Red hall | BG | Tickets: 15/10 BGN.

The performance is built on interviews with homeless people conducted in winter, when they are most vulnerable. The actors reproduce verbatim (from Latin, "word for word") their thoughts on what home, the street, love, family and dreams mean to them. What does their life turn into once they end up on the street? Why is Alastor, the spirit of solitude, their constant companion? This is the third show of the series The Invisibles by Documentary Theatre Studio Vox Populi. It explores the lives of unknown and marginalized groups and minorities.

Author: Katya Atanasova
27. Sept.
| 19:30 | Red Hall | BG | Free entrance | Open mike event

"Everyone has their own story about themselves, about others, about small and big things. In fact, the world is full of stories that are waiting to be told."; These words were at the heart of the idea of the Storytellers League when journalist Katya Atanasova created it more than 10 years ago. The format provides a platform for sharing first-person stories in a casual setting in the company of friends, music and a glass of wine.

DISCUSSION

This meeting within the module of events "N/TRY Backward" attempts to do a complete, thorough and effective reading of the transition period in Bulgaria as seen through the eyes of the people who were then teenagers and are today 35-40 years old. Have the times of revolutionary ideas and non-conformism made them inflexible and unable to adapt today? Where does the nostalgia for the freedom of teenage years end and the crisis of meaning begin? Which part of that transition can we not part with for the past 20 years and does this hinder our present and its natural pace of innovation and change? Moderators: Neda Sokolovska, Rada Ezekieva.
